Success in IWN's Pro-Bono Project 18/08/2007

IWN's Pro-Bono project sets to combat discrimination in the workplace. In this special project advocates represent precedent-setting cases on a pro bono basis regarding o illegal firing of pregnant women. These cases are submitted countrywide and raise awareness to the problem.

Worth mentioning is that in the framework of our pro-bono project IWN often represents cases of new immigrant women – (Russian, Ethiopian and others) who have no means of hiring legal advice to assume their rights.

In a case represented pro-bono by Adv. Shirel Nakdimon, the Labor Court ruled a precedent setting ruling - in case a woman hasn't revealed her pregnancy during a work interview, it is not considered as a violation of her good faith. The employee was rewarded a compensation of NIS 20,000.

In another case Adv. Dotan Lindberg represented pro- bono an X-ray technician who was fired during her pregnancy. The case ended in a compromise and the employee was rewarded a compensation of NIS 15,000.

Following letters sent by the IWN, two employees who were fired during fertility treatments were compensated. The first worked for four years in a Diamond Company owned by Lev Leviav and received a compensation of NIS 20,000. The other worked for seven years as a kindergarten teacher in a private kindergarten and received a compensation of NIS 21,000.
